CAA opens engagement on CAP1616

The UK Civil Aviation Authority has today opened its public engagement exercise as part of a review into its airspace change process, known as CAP1616.

The CAA are inviting all stakeholders to share their views and experiences of the CAP1616 process and its guidance through our online survey to help inform any proposed improvements.

CAP1616 was first launched in January 2018 and is the process the Civil Aviation Authority use to make decisions on proposals to change the design of the UK’s airspace. It is an evidence-based system that was designed in consultation with stakeholders to be fair, transparent, consistent and proportionate.

CAP1616 Review Process
CAP1616 itself requires that the CAA undertake a review three years after its implementation, enabling them to make stakeholder driven improvements to the process, ensuring that it is both efficient and effective.

This public engagement exercise is the third stage of the CAA's review process. It has already held a series of internal stakeholder workshops in June 2021 and external stakeholder workshops were held in September 2021.

The feedback received through this public engagement exercise, as well as the two earlier stages in the CAA review, will be collated and considered by the CAA and its proposals to amend the airspace change process will be subject to a formal public consultation process currently planned for summer 2022.
