Cardiff Aviation and Serco partner on painting

Cardiff Aviation has partnered with Serco to provide painting and surface finishing services to commercial and government organisations in the aerospace sector from their facilities at St Athan, Aerospace Business Park, South Wales.

The new partnership combines Cardiff Aviation’s industry expertise and rapidly developing maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services with Serco’s experience in the highly specialised military aerospace re-finishing sector.

From Cardiff Aviation’s modern on-site facility at St Athan, a fully qualified team spray finish a wide range of aircraft, airframe component, ground support equipment (GSE), as well as aircraft interiors. The new service adopts high performance paint finish products and provides the highest quality results at competitive prices. Together we have the skills and cutting-edge technology to paint to almost all commercial and military aircraft specifications.

Cardiff Aviation and Serco are further exploring opportunities to deploy their collective experience and technical expertise to the wider aviation sector and further invest in St Athan, which is within one of the seven Welsh Government’s Enterprise Zones.

Cardiff Aviation provides fully-approved and certified aircraft support including MRO, training, leasing and operations all from its impressive facilities at St Athan. The Company operates from a 220,000 square foot maintenance footprint on the airport, alongside a 6,000 foot ILS runway, with parking for up to thirty narrow-bodied aircraft.

Mario Fugoni, chief executive of Cardiff Aviation, explained how Serco’s expertise will enhance the Company’s MRO services to the aviation industry: “This is a great opportunity for us to develop a comprehensive painting capability on-site adjacent to our hangar facility and provide additional services to our MRO customers, as well as servicing UK aerospace industry needs in this sector. It is the first step towards expanding our painting capability to include aircraft painting in the near future.”

Karen Smart, Serco’s director Front Line Command said: “Serco has extensive experience in the military aerospace re-finishing sector and we have worked with the RAF for many years. This agreement with Cardiff Aviation means that we can bring that capability and expertise to the commercial aerospace and vehicle markets, whilst also supporting growth and regeneration in South Wales.”
