DSEI 2013: UK trains Austrian Armed Forces

MASS has won a contract to provide specialist Electronic Warfare Operational Support and data management instruction to the Austrian Armed Forces.

The initial coordination for this work was brokered through the UK Ministry of Defence in support of Austria’s NATO partnership goals. Through the Partnership for Peace framework, Austria actively cooperates with NATO in peace support operations and also in capability development which enhances their interoperability between NATO partners and allies.

Expanding the Austrian Armed Forces understanding of Electronic Warfare helps to enhance operational security and increases protection when on operations.

Instructors from MASS will go to Austria in the autumn of 2013 to deliver the first training course and will work closely with the Austrian Armed Forces to develop the training.

Ashley Lane, managing director of MASS, said: “MASS is delighted to offer its operational and professional expertise to the Austrian Army, enhancing their operational effectiveness in an EW environment. Having delivered training to many foreign and domestic Armed Forces, we adopt a flexible approach to course design and provide a one-stop shop for EW training.”

Lieutenant Colonel Ian Stafford OBE, British Defence Attaché, Vienna said: “The British Embassy in Vienna is keen to develop areas of security and defence cooperation between the UK and Austria both within the security and defence framework of the EU and within the NATO partnership capability develop goals.

"The training which is due to be delivered to the Austrian Armed Forces in Autumn 2013 by MASS will give the Austrians an insight into how to develop their capabilities and interoperability with partners.”
