Durabook highlights UK and European expansion at DSEI

Durabook will be at DSEI, ExCel, London, next week (10th-13th September), where it will be highlighting its expansion into the UK and Europe, whilst showcasing its full range of rugged mobile devices built specifically for the defence sector.

Durabook is owned by Twinhead International Corporation and is expanding operations across the UK and Europe, building a strategy for the defence sector with the aim of replicating the organisation’s success across Asia and the US, where it has gained significant traction.

Since building its first military-grade rugged laptop device in 2000, Durabook now counts the US Airforce, US Army and US Marine Corps as key customers. In 2019 it secured the contract to supply a full range of fully- and semi- rugged laptops, tablets and notebooks for US Air Force Client Computing Solutions (CCS-2), making it the rugged provider of choice for users from the US Department of the Air Force, Army and Navy, Defense Health Agency-Air Force, White House Communications Agency and the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

For the first time, Durabook will showcase its newly launched Z14I ultra rugged laptop, which has been designed specifically to meet the needs of military, critical national infrastructure and public safety personnel. It offers unmatched durability and comes with an unprecedented range of built-in features that allow the laptop’s use to be expanded on the fly. In field based missions, connecting hardware via the device’s two PCIe slots quickly transforms it into an ultra-portable workstation, or a remote control/radio system for robots or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) for example.

On the first day of DSEI - on the 10th September - Durabook will also launch significant updates to its popular S15AB tablet, the thinnest and lightest semi-rugged device in its class. The S15AB combines military-grade durability, field-worker functionality and desktop performance. It features the latest 8th Generation Intel® processor and powerful graphics needed to boost field performance for tasks such as mapping, CAD application, asset management and maintenance. Its IP5X rating means it’s more durable than its predecessor, protecting it from three foot drops (previously 2.5 foot), water and dust ingress.

The device can also withstand any environment, weather conditions or temperature (between -20 °C and +60 °C) that field workers might find themselves. It offers extreme flexibility with the option for it to be configured to support three storage drives (supporting RAID 0 and RAID 1), so it can be extended to operate as a server to handle data- and graphic-intensive tasks and safely store more data in the field. Three USB 3.1 type-A ports, a USB 3.1 type-C port and a multitude of other I/O options gives users the flexibility they need to complete every task and expand the device to deliver broader functionality. It also has an option of an RFID reader for enhanced security.

“Military and defence organisations around the world are embracing automation and digital transformation strategies to drive efficiencies, and improvements in operations, decision-making, safety and security - and rugged technology is core to this,” said Twinhead CEO Fred Kao. “As technology evolves, Durabook ensures that organisations can keep pace and adopt cutting edge innovations by building in as much flexibility and options for expansion as possible into every single device - far beyond that of any other rugged products on the market today.”

Durabook’s range of rugged mobile devices support defence operations from the frontline, in-vehicle and in the control centre to assist a range of mission critical tasks. The devices pack in more processing power to handle data intensive tasks, like geographic mapping, have round the clock battery power and support military standard security and encryption requirements.
