EasyJet launches Southend to Tenerife service

The Only Way is Essex newcomer Pascal Craymer donned her beachwear yesterday to enjoy a specially created 'beach' to celebrate the launch of easyJet's flights from London Southend Airport to Tenerife.

The brand new, twice weekly easyJet service from Britain’s Best Airport (as voted by readers of Which? magazine) to the guaranteed sunshine and stunning beaches of the Canary Island takes off for the first time on Friday 13 December.

The ‘beach’ – complete with sand, buckets, spades, orange towels, deckchairs, Rossi Ice Cream and suntan lotion – was created in front of the terminal at London Southend Airport.

Famed for constant sunny days, minimal rainfall, volcanic origins and an average year-round temperature of 22 degrees, the Canary Islands bask in 4,800 daylight hours each year and have a uniquely constant climate – making them the ideal destination for sun worshippers and water sports fans. More than 11,000 passengers each year are expected to take advantage of the new four-hour flight direct from London Southend Airport on Tuesday and Friday.

The 26-year old Model and trainee stuntwoman from Leigh-on-Sea, Pascal – last seen in the The Only Way is Essex (TOWIE) season finale splitting from boyfriend Mario Falcone – said: “I am absolutely delighted to be here at London Southend Airport launching flights to Tenerife. It’s great to have a fantastic, fast and friendly airport right here on our doorstep, I’ve used it loads and love it, as do all my friends and family – the only way to fly is London Southend!”

London Southend Airport operations director David Lister joined Pascal on the beach (above). He said “We are delighted to add easyJet’s new services to Tenerife to the destinations we offer here at London Southend Airport and are sure it is going to prove hugely popular - it is undoubtedly one of those our customers have been asking for. Having just experienced our busiest ever summer with more than 230,000 people travelling through the airport, it is great that we’re now able to add this much loved winter sun location, giving people in London, Essex and beyond the chance to use their simply easier airport to go and top up their tans through these colder months.”

Hugh Aitken, easyJet’s UK commercial manager said: “We’re thrilled to be launching easyJet’s 16th destination from London Southend to the sunshine island of Tenerife today. It’s the perfect choice for Winter Sun seekers from Southend and beyond and we’re sure our new easy and affordable services will be very popular.”
