EasyJet makes first flight to Iceland from Luton

EasyJet has begun operating its new route from London Luton Airport to Reykjavik in Iceland. The inaugural flight took off from Luton Airport yesterday morning and the new service will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

In response to the popularity of the route, easyJet has committed to a full year-round service to Reykjavik to meet passenger demand, with seats for the 2012 winter season available from tomorrow (Thursday 29th March).

EasyJet flights will land at Keflavik International Airport, offering passengers a first glimpse of Iceland’s breathtaking scenery. Set against a backdrop of snow-topped mountains the capital, Reykjavik, is known for its weekend nightlife, health spas, world-class restaurants and countless museums.

Iceland is famed for its natural wonderland of spouting geysers, gigantic glaciers and the tranquil Blue Lagoon. During the winter months, travellers can experience the spectacular northern lights and in the summer months the island enjoys warm temperatures and up to 22 hours of daylight.

Paul Simmons, easyJet's UK Director, said: “We are thrilled our first flight to Iceland has taken off from London Luton Airport today and are pleased with the fantastic response we have received from passengers.  This is set to be one of our most successful destinations to date, and as a result we have committed to a year-round service.
