Exova creates Europe's largest creep and stress rupture lab

Global testing group Exova has consolidated its capabilities in Newcastle, UK and Plzen, Czech Republic to create Europe's largest creep and stress rupture laboratory.

Exova invested in the transfer of 113 additional creep and stress rupture frames from its Newcastle laboratory to its Plzeň lab, and also invested in the refurbishment of many previously unused frames. These investments have resulted in Exova doubling its capacity to perform a range of stress rupture, creep and strain relaxation tests.

Plzeň is a fully equipped mechanical laboratory which offers tensile, impact, fatigue and fracture toughness testing, as well as metallurgy, for customers in the aerospace sector. With these capabilities, Exova can now offer a complete service to customers from a single laboratory, with all tests conducted in house. The higher capacity also allows Exova more flexibility in choosing the optimal frames for customer needs, ensuring the most precise, technical results.

Jiri Fidransky, general manager of the Plzeň laboratory, said: “Exova Plzeň is currently operating over 270 creep and stress rupture test points, making it the largest creep and stress rupture laboratory in Europe.

“We are providing the same scope of testing, but in higher volumes, and it places Exova as a centre of excellence in this field. We have improved turnaround times, concentrated testing expertise in one laboratory, and we are now in a position to take on testing projects of almost any size.”
