FIA 2012: Northern Ireland First Minister presents Aerospace Award to Moyola Precision Engineering

Moyola Precision Engineering, the Northern Ireland based aerospace manufacturer, has become the first Northern Ireland company to be awarded the Supply Chains for the 21st Century (SC21) Silver award on the first day of the Farnborough International Airshow.

To mark this occasion, Northern Ireland First Minister Rt Hon Peter Robinson MLA, enterprise Minister Arlene Foster MLA and Michael Ryan vice president and general manager Bombardier Aerospace presented the award.

SC21 is a business excellence programme for aerospace and defence companies in the UK run by ADS. It encourages the uptake of practices that will raise the performance and increase the competitiveness of companies operating in the supply chain. There are three award stages for SC21: bronze, silver and gold. These are awarded according to how a company has performed on a 12 month rolling average across three metrics: Quality; Delivery; and how the company has performed against its own improvement framework.

To achieve an SC21 Silver award, a company must achieve a delivery success rate between 95% and 99% and quality between 99.5% and 99.9%.

Presenting the award, Northern Ireland First Minister Rt Hon Peter Robinson MLA, joked: “Mark, you already have the Bronze, this is the silver, you know what comes next don't you?

He said: "This prestigious award is a major achievement for Moyola and for the local aerospace and defence industries which are strategically important for Northern Ireland. Receiving UK-wide recognition of its capabilities will enable Moyola to take advantage of new business opportunities and to compete on a global platform. The Northern Ireland Executive has been working hard to promote Northern Ireland expertise to new markets around the world. Today’s award demonstrates the high quality of service that customers can expect.”

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster MLA, said: “This SC21 silver award recognises the significant work Moyola has undertaken in focusing on business and manufacturing excellence and building strong customer relationships. This formal acknowledgement of Moyola’s capabilities positions the firm as one of the leading aerospace companies not just in Northern Ireland but across the UK.

“Invest Northern Ireland continues to assist the growth of the industry by encouraging closer collaboration between the world’s major players and the Northern Ireland based cluster of smaller aerospace and defence companies.”

Mark Semple MD Moyola Precision Engineering, said: “We are thrilled to be awarded the SC21 silver award. It is representative of the commitment of our personnel to servicing our customers in an excellent manner, combined with an improvement of our efficiency, manufacturing capabilities and business results. We are also appreciative of all of our aerospace customers, particularly Bombardier Aerospace, for their support over many years.
