Frazer-Nash engineer becomes one of IMechE's youngest Fellows

Graham Hawkes, a senior engineer at Frazer-Nash Consultancy, has become one of the youngest Fellows of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE) in the latest round of Fellow elections.

Few IMechE members ever reach the level of Fellow, and at 35 years old, Dr Graham Hawkes is one of around 40 people to be awarded the accolade this quarter from a network of more than 100,000 Institution members.

Fellowship is the Institution’s highest class of membership and requires an engineer to hold a position of senior responsibility in their chosen area of mechanical engineering, as well as meet criteria that test their leadership, influencing and strategic qualities.

Graham, (right) who leads one of the Fluid teams at Frazer-Nash’s office in Dorking, specialises in fluid mechanics and heat transfer, and has a particular interest in unsteady flow assessment. His engineering expertise has been built over a 10 year career at the consultancy following the completion of his doctorate research at Oxford University.

He said: “I’m extremely honoured to be recognised as a Fellow at such a young age, especially given most Fellowships aren’t awarded until much later on in one’s career. Not only is this a great personal achievement for me, but it also demonstrates how Frazer-Nash has created the perfect environment for young and talented engineers to thrive.

“As part of my current role, I am supporting the development of the next generation of graduate mechanical engineers and helping them work towards Chartered Engineer (IMechE) member status.”

Deborah Ford, Head of Human Resources at the Consultancy, said: “We are incredibly proud that Graham has become a Fellow so early on his career. It highlights his exceptional commitment to mechanical engineering, which has been unfaltering over the past 10 years.

“Frazer-Nash is committed to encouraging professional development within the consultancy and provides an extensive support network for those at the early stages of their career. We hope that Graham’s Fellowship will help encourage those considering a career in mechanical engineering to take the leap.”
