At the time of the inspection, 280 apprentices were studying the Level 3 Operational Firefighter Apprenticeship programme, the industry leading qualification.

Clair Mowbray, Director of the Fire Service College, said: “This recognition from Ofsted is credit to everyone at the Fire Service College involved in developing and delivering world-class training and learning that equips apprentice firefighters with the knowledge, skills and confidence to help them excel in their careers.

“Ofsted also noted that tutors and delivery staff have high expectations of apprentices and teach complex content in a supportive manner, enabling apprentices to grow in confidence and take pride in building their resilience.

“The FSC continues to invest in the latest technologies, including VR headsets, to ensure that learning is interactive, engaging and applicable in real-life scenarios.”
