London City Airport appoints Jonathan Rayner as CCO

London City Airport (LCY) has announced the appointment of Jonathan Rayner as its new Chief Commercial Officer. Rayner will take up his new position in July 2026, when he will also become a member of the airport’s Executive Committee.

Rayner joins London City Airport from Peel Ports Group, where he served as Chief Commercial Officer and sat on the Executive Board. Before that, Rayner held the positions of Chief Commercial Officer at London Luton Airport and held senior leadership roles at Edinburgh Airport, incorporating the Aviation and Digital Director functions.

According to a London City Airport statement, Rayner will be joining at an important time in the airport’s development, as it progresses its next stage of investment and customer proposition, as well as further commercial growth.

In his new position, Rayner has been tasked with leading the airport’s commercial strategy, while holding responsibility for strengthening airline and business partnerships, enhancing the overall passenger experience, and driving growth through the airport’s various revenue-generating projects.

Speaking about his new appointment, Rayner said that he was thrilled to be joining London City at such an exciting time in the airport’s development. “The airport has a compelling opportunity to grow its customer offer, deepen its airline and commercial partnerships and continue broadening its appeal for both business and leisure passengers,” he said.

“I look forward to working with colleagues across the airport and with our partners to build on that momentum and help deliver the next stage of London City Airport’s growth,” Rayner added.

London City Airport on the rise

London City Airport is the UK’s most central airport and offers flights to over 30 destinations across the UK and Europe, handling 3.7 million passengers in 2025.

Located in the heart of London’s Docklands area, London City Airport is the city’s closest airport to the downtown area and is renowned for its on-time punctuality and its streamlined passenger experience. Since its opening in 1987, the airport has built up a range of business and leisure destinations serviced by airlines including British Airways,  SWISS, Luxair, LOT, KLM, Lufthansa, and ITA Airways,

In 2024, the facility secured government approval to increase its annual passenger capacity to nine million by 2031.

It is also progressing regulatory and consultation processes to support the introduction of larger, cleaner and quieter new-generation aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo, which the airport hopes will unlock further route opportunities and enable growth with fewer flights than would otherwise be required.

In 2025, London City Airport was voted the Best Airport in the UK in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller UK Readers’ Choice Awards 2025.
