The agreement, formalised through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), outlines a collaborative effort to deliver innovation and industrial application in the field of advanced ceramics.

Built on a shared commitment to tackling global industrial challenges including energy resilience, sustainability and the pursuit of Net Zero, the partnership will advance next-generation ceramic materials and manufacturing technologies.

Tim Abbott, Business Manager at Lucideon, said: “The industrial landscape is evolving rapidly and, with increasing pressures related to energy security, sustainability, and performance in extreme environments, new solutions are urgently required.

“This partnership with MTC aligns our expertise in advanced ceramics and ceramic matrix composites with world-class capabilities in engineering and scale-up.

“Our collaboration enables us to provide end-to-end support from materials development, through to complete system integration and validation.

“In collaboration with MTC and other partners, we are building momentum that will deliver advanced ceramic technologies that provide real industrial advantage”

The MoU covers a wide range of technologies including:

  • Materials formulation development and characterisation
  • Multimaterial and dissimilar material joining
  • Uniaxial pressing and additive manufacturing techniques
  • Advanced sintering techniques, including Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP), Flash Sintering (also known as Field-Enhanced Sintering) and Computer Vision for sintering optimisation

The scope of application spans multiple sectors, particularly energy, aerospace and defence, both domestically and internationally.

Joint participation in collaborative R&D initiatives will also be supported, helping accelerate innovation through nationally and internationally funded programmes, strengthening the UK’s position in global advanced manufacturing and materials technology.

Under the terms of the MoU, Lucideon will lead in materials analysis, evaluation, and the development of high-performance ceramic technologies.

MTC will focus on full system and product design, as well as industrial-scale implementation.

A spokesperson from the MTC said: “Lucideon is recognised as a leader in materials innovation, and we look forward to strengthening our collaboration with them.

“This partnership exemplifies how organisations can come together to tackle complex challenges through deep technical expertise and shared ambition.

“Together, we are laying the groundwork for technological breakthroughs that will redefine industry standards and improve sustainability outcomes.”

The relationship will leverage The AMRICC Centre, an advanced ceramics pilot-scale facility hosted and managed by Lucideon on behalf of the Midlands Industrial Ceramics Group consortium.

The AMRICC Centre is designed to accelerate the commercialisation of new ceramic technologies, providing a critical pathway from lab-scale innovation to market-ready solutions.
