A set of standards defined by the International Organisation for Standardisation, ISO 14001 maps out the specifications and evaluation criteria for robust environmental management systems. Due to the precise and exacting nature of these criteria, ISO 14001 is a universally recognised gold standard for environmental management.

Although Marshall Aerospace had already been undertaking some parts of the standard, the goal of formally achieving full certification was set by Managing Director Neil McManus at the beginning of 2023.

With its Aerospace, Land Systems and Fleet Solutions businesses all having achieving ISO 14001 certification, the Marshall Group has delivered on a key commitment to implement robust environmental management systems across its operations within 2023. Under its 'Ambition 2030' vision, the Marshall Group is seeking to achieve net zero emissions within its own operations by 2030, with zero non-hazardous waste going to landfill.

Across Marshall Aerospace, significant environmental impacts such as waste creation and energy consumption were identified, and suggestions by employees were reviewed and assessed for potential adoption. Environmental working groups were set up to determine the current environmental impact in each area, develop improvement measures, and permanently implement new systems.

The business was audited by the AFNOR Group, an external accreditation body, during October and November. On the basis of this audit, Marshall Aerospace was awarded ISO 14001 certification.

Chris Hosking, Marshall Aerospace’s Head of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment said: “This certification demonstrates a firm commitment to reducing our environment impact throughout all parts of our business at Cambridge.

“Achieving ISO 14001 certification will show our employees, stakeholders, and existing and potential customers how important the environment is to Marshall Aerospace, for all future generations.”

Marshall Aerospace will continue to maintain and improve its environmental management systems in order to continue meeting the rigorous ISO 14001 criteria for years to come.
