OAS introduces low cure Onto surface treatment

Oxford Advanced Surfaces (OAS), a pioneer in surface treatment of polymeric, plastic and composite materials by the application of highly reactive carbene chemistry, has developed a new, low temperature cure of its innovative Onto surface treatment.

The new Onto EP1132 can be cured at 80oC, instead of 100oC, increasing its ease of use with fewer risks, easier handling and an altogether more efficient process.  It is even more easily integrated into existing painting processes for aircraft manufacturers and MRO specialists.

Onto EP1132 is a treatment for the surface preparation for the painting or lacquering of composites that removes the need for sanding or mechanical abrasion that provides 90% reduction in surface preparation time

Onto’s easy application by spray makes surface preparation easier, allowing even difficult areas, such as internal corners, difficult angles and blind voids to be easily prepared, leading to improved quality finish. Anywhere that can be spray painted can be easily prepared using Onto.

OAS’s patented Onto chemistry platform delivers a range of versatile and reliable chemical surface treatments that are used to improve the adhesion of paints, coatings and adhesives to composite materials and engineering plastics.

Simple to use, Onto supports the volume manufacturing of composites in all areas of advanced manufacturing, while also being easy to use with complex shapes.
Dr Jon-Paul Griffiths, Chief Technology Officer, Oxford Advanced Surfaces said: “The new Onto EP1132 has many advantages over conventional surface preparation and can be used in all sectors where composites are used. At Oxford Advanced Surfaces, we look to create more effective and safer alternatives for conventional methods of surface preparation . Having successfully completed extensive trials, we are now rolling this out to all advanced engineering industries.”

The unique patented technology of Onto has already been proven in demanding applications in automotive, transportation, motorsport, defence and sporting goods and is specifically designed to exploit the maximum potential of modern materials. It provides a practical approach to surface preparation that reduces processing time, reduces cost, improves adhesion and is easily repeatable.
