ODU Connectors showcasing AMC solutions at SDSC-UK

ODU Connectors will be displaying all of their current AMC (Advanced Military Connectors) at the Specialist Defence and Security Convention-UK (SDSC-UK), taking place 3rd-5th February at the NEC Birmingham, which will include a couple of new items aimed specifically at rugged, embedded systems in the military and aerospace market.

One of the difficulties facing military sub-system suppliers is the need to fix up-front the exact locking system at each connection point on the system and install an appropriate bulkhead connector. Now that decision can be easier – ODU have introduced a new three in one plug for their AMC Series - three locking options onto a standard bulkhead.

This means the locking decision to does not have to be made by the box OEM but  later, determined in conjunction with the ancillary kit suppliers.

This alternative to the standard MIL-DTL-38999 Series lll  connector, excels with its innovative three in one plug locking options of push-pull, snatch or screw-lock onto a common bulkhead. Qualified on the basis of the 38999 test standards but with an even smaller footprint, the ODU AMC Series T meets all requirements for use in extreme environments and scores points with its lower weight and smaller form.

Bulkhead mountings are square flange or jam nut.

Solving the USB Problem

Military equipment is undergoing a huge transformation, with a proliferation of small COTS devices, often connected/charged via a standard USB-C socket.

An ‘umbilical’ link between base equipment and the various hand-held devices is now required, a pragmatic solution for which ODU now offers with its ODU AMC High-Density to USB-C interface umbilical.

The ODU AMC High-Density to USB-C interface umbilical provides:

  • ODU AMC High-Density 12.8mm diameter connector at one end and a right-angled over-moulded USB-C plug at the other - crucial for mobile systems.
  • Maximum flexibility and convenience thanks to cable lengths of up to four metres.
  • Power transmission up to 5A and data rates up to 480 Mbit/s
  • Robust design for -40° C to +85° C and 5,000 mating cycles

According to ODU, this umbilical offers the best possible solution – retaining the high integrity of the connection to base equipment while providing the most rugged connection to the small ancillary devices.
