Patria and Germany sign two contracts within CAVS programme

Patria and Germany have concluded two procurement contracts within the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme.

The deal, valued at over €2 billion, is for up to 876 Patria 6x6 armoured vehicles within the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme, of which the UK recently became a member.

This landmark agreement is a significant step in multinational defence cooperation and will be critical to the German Army’s goal of achieving full combat readiness by 2029. It also includes a major technology transfer component to local German industry, similar to that offered in the UK through Patria’s agreement with Babcock.

These contracts involve the acquisition of up to 876 Patria 6x6 armoured vehicles in four different variants, including those equipped with the Patria NEMO turreted mortar system and Kongsberg RS4 remote control weapon system.

The deliveries will begin in 2026, followed up with Patria’s technology transfer to German industrial partners FFG, JWT and KNDS, with whom Patria signed the industrial teaming agreement in early 2024. The first fully locally built armoured vehicles will be delivered in 2027, and the full local production capacity will be established to meet possible future demands of Bundeswehr, the German Armed Forces.

President and CEO of Patria Esa Rautalinko.”I am pleased to announce that these CAVS contracts with Germany on Patria 6x6 and Patria NEMO represent the largest single deal in Patria's history, making also our 6x6 armoured vehicle the European standard. Germany's trust in Patria and in the CAVS programme underscores a modern approach to multinational defence cooperation, fostering interoperable fleets and ensuring unprecedented security of supply through industrial cooperation. The German CAVS programme will contribute to the German Army’s ambition to reach full combat readiness by 2029 and Patria is proud to be part of this development.“

Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Protected Mobility business area, said: “Patria has decades of experience of carrying out technology transfer to several countries in three different continents. Together with our local German industry team we are ready and able to provide Bundeswehr all desired armoured vehicles and to build local security of supply.“

Germany joined the CAVS programme in 2023 and has since then consistently worked to meet their supply needs and gain the benefits of being a valuable member in the joined programme. Germany has now proceeded to full scale supply phase with strong indications of further needs. German solutions also offer new elements for other members to exploit.

The Finnish Defence Forces led CAVS programme currently consists of seven member nations: Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, The United Kingdom and Norway with the vehicles being also operational in Ukraine. Within the CAVS programme, the 6x6 armoured vehicle system development is led by Patria, that has more than four decades of experience in developing and delivering state-of-the-art protected troop transportation and system integration. Vast majority of supply of the vehicles is conducted by utilising the member nations’ local industry capabilities and every new nation is inherently reinforcing the security of supply for the whole collaboration system.

Patria has already received orders for nearly 2,000 Patria 6x6 vehicles and has delivered more than 250 vehicles. The programme is open to European countries with similar equipment requirements, by mutual consent of the participating countries.
