Rapiscan using Termotek tailored chillers for security scanning application

Provider of aviation security solutions, Rapiscan Systems, is to use Termotek chillers which are developed specifically for their large luggage scanning equipment, for deployment at airports around the world.

Two cooling devices have been created to cool the detection equipment itself with a third used for controlling the temperature of the electronic computer systems.

The project has taken two years to come to fruition. Members of the Rapiscan team had knowledge of similar chillers used for cooling lasers and were aware that Termotek could provide products that would offer the reliability and functionality required on equipment that operates 24/7, the ability to make them bespoke for the particular application and at the right cost.

The different chillers have been developed, prototypes created and tested, adapted and are now starting to move to full production.

Stuart Packer, who works for Technotrans, the parent of Termotek, said: “The products of Rapiscan Systems are used by aviation authorities around the world to detect threats and ensure the safety of the travelling public. It has been a privilege to work alongside technical experts who are producing important machines that utilise cutting edge technology to screen luggage before it enters the hold of airplanes. We take our role of supplying reliable chilling devices very seriously, knowing that these machines must work efficiently in demanding operational environments.”
