The ceremony recognised Cadet Force Adult Volunteers across London for their exceptional contributions and Ali’s impact stood out.
A former cadet himself, Ali has channelled his career at Raytheon UK into inspiring the next generation. Through hands-on volunteering with the London Wing of the RAF Air Cadets, he has played a pivotal role in motivating young people to explore opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Group Captain Kevin Walton, regional commandant for London and the South East RAF Air Cadets said: “Flying Officer Ali Bachar’s unwavering commitment to inspiring cadets and supporting colleagues has transformed the Wing’s STEM activities and provided cadets with invaluable opportunities into the STEM industry.”
Ali’s passion for STEM began with the RTX Quadcopter Challenge, an annual competition where students design, build and fly quadcopters. Now celebrating its tenth year, the challenge has come full circle for Ali, who now serves as a judge, helping shape the very competition that first inspired him.
His dedication has driven unprecedented participation. This year’s Quadcopter Challenge saw the largest cadet turnout in its history, with 109 cadet groups across 13 regions competing. Under Ali’s mentorship, the team achieved an impressive second place among more than 112 teams nationwide.
Alex Rose-Parfitt, Director of Engineering at Raytheon UK shared, “The remarkable dedication shown by Ali and his collaboration with the RAF Air Cadets embodies everything we stand for in supporting STEM growth in the UK.”
Ali said: "It’s a great feeling to have my efforts recognised, and it’s been genuinely rewarding to help create opportunities that spark curiosity and interest in STEM among young people.
"The passion and innovation on display from the cadets is second to none, and I look forward to seeing them drive STEM industries in the UK."
