STS Defence awarded Satcom contract for the Royal Navy
Above: Wing Commander Peter Dart, Networks BLOS, MoD awards the UHF SATCOM contract to Richard Papanicolaou, Managing Director, STS Defence Ltd.
The contract, commencing on 1st July 2012, will see STS Defence support the MoD through to 2017. During this period a replacement programme will also take place introducing a new modern terminal into service. UHF Satcom is a secure maritime telecommunications system which currently operates in 16 surface and 11 sub-surface RN vessels. This contract represents a significant win for the company and further demonstrates their value to the MoD and the Royal Navy.
Alan Mackinnon, STS Defence Engineering Services Business Manager said: "We are delighted to be awarded this contract, and be recognised for our expertise in Communications & Data systems. We look forward to continuing the excellent relationship we have with the UK MoD to deliver high-quality capabilities and services to meet their needs and the needs of our armed forces."
Andrew Chattaway at MoD Corsham – Project Manager for UHF Satcom said: “This represents a different way of working whereby STS provide support as a partially managed service using MoD assets. It is anticipated this approach will empower STS to be able to provide a more comprehensive, reactive and streamlined service while also retaining flexibility. This will be achieved by also building on the trust and openness that STS have demonstrated within their tender response and previous contracts.”
