Sweden awards naval gun and ammo contract to BAE Systems
BAE Systems has been awarded a Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) contract to deliver four Bofors 57Mk3 naval gun systems along with Bofors 57mm 3P (Pre-fragmented, Programmable, Proximity-fused) ammunition.
Stefan Löfström, Marketing & Sales director at BAE Systems Bofors, said: “This contract reinforces our long-standing role as a trusted partner to the Swedish armed forces and FMV and our commitment to supporting the Swedish Navy with proven capability.
“It demonstrates Sweden’s absolute confidence in the Bofors 57Mk3 and its advanced 3P ammunition as key capabilities for Sweden’s maritime defence.”

Targetting a range of maritime defence capabilities for allied navies
The Bofors 57Mk3 is a multirole naval gun system designed for air defence, anti-surface warfare and naval fire support missions. It is geared to provide high survivability and tactical freedom at all levels of conflict.
Combined with the programmable 57mm 3P ammunition, it enables effective engagement of a wide range of threats, including drones, aircraft, missiles and surface targets.
The Bofors 57Mk3 naval gun is installed on various ship types around the world and is in use with the allied navies and coast guards of eight nations, including Canada, Finland, Germany and Sweden.
It’s also in use in the United States (where it is known as the Mk110 naval gun), used by the US Coast Guard’s National Security Cutter and offshore patrol cutter classes of ships, as well as for the US Navy’s LCS ships.

Each of the Royal Navy‘s fleet of five Type 31 ships will have a Bofors 57Mk3 naval gun on deck, with the first ship expected to go into service next year.
