TEC puts 600th delegate through auditor training

Aerospace and defence quality specialist, TEC, has announced that it had successfully put the 600th delegate through its auditor training courses.

Staff from leading aerospace, automotive and defence companies are benefitting from the courses, including; Rolls-Royce, Magellan Aerospace, G & O Springs, UKAS plus several independent auditors from the Irish Republic, Northern Ireland, Germany, Turkey, the Netherlands and the Isle-of-Man.

The courses are designed not only to help engineers perform capable and value-adding audits, but also to develop their wider understanding of the design and implementation of modern (process-based) aerospace/defence quality management systems.

In particular it will help them get to grips with ever-increasing important issues such as customer satisfaction, effectiveness & continual improvement of processes, supplier review and the essential role of top management.

Dr David Scrimshire (right), TEC director who developed the courses said: “These courses are improving the effectiveness of British quality professionals in the aerospace, defence and automotive sectors. They are also a badge of competence that companies can show to their Certification Bodies and customers.”

Wing Commander Rob Johnstone of the Military Aviation Association (MAA) said: “The course … was both challenging and good fun. Some of the techniques that were covered are already being put to good use here at the MAA.”

Dan Horne, Quality Administrator, AJW Aviation, said: “Working in an the heavily regulated aviation industry AJW is reliant on its internal audit programme – and a well-educated internal audit team – to ensure its Quality Management System maintains compliance to the many complex aviation regulations and standards.

“The success of our audit programme has given us the impetus to extend it in each of the following years, safe in the knowledge that we can trust TEC to train new auditors to the required level.

“The work and effort put into our internal audits has allowed us to make continuous improvement to our world class Quality Management System. External and customer auditors are regularly impressed at the quality of our internal audit programme and that all our auditors have received IAQG accredited training.”

Another delegate from the courses said “As a novice to AS9100, I now feel confident that I could audit against it with credibility and accountability”; while another commented “I thought that the course was taught at an excellent pace, to a group of individuals at various levels of knowledge. It was very informative, conducted by two extremely engaging and knowledgeable tutors.”

Alex Batan, quality engineer from ProDrive, said: “We needed to certify a few of our staff as internal auditors to comply with the TS16949 requirements, and we are now able to do this with confidence. TEC used practical case studies from a variety of situations to help explain the concepts.

“This course has helped us to change gear within the business and we face now our TS16949 audit with a bigger understanding of what is required.”
