UK students flying high after international Rocketry Challenge
All three finalist teams had won a national competition to build and fly a rocket which successfully took off and landed with an egg on board that remained in-tact. The winners’ rocket flew closest to the required time limit of 46 to 48 seconds, and to the altitude closest to 800 feet.
The teams also had to present how their rocket was designed and built, defining the unique feature of their rocket and lessons learnt from the Challenge.
The Team Terminator students, aged between 11 and 16 were presented with their runner-up trophy by Presidents and Chief Executives from GIFAS, AIA, NASA ADS Group.
The annual competition is organised by leading trade body ADS Group, which is supported by Royal Aeronautical Society and sponsored by UTC Aerospace and Lockheed Martin.
Paul Everitt, Chief Executive of ADS Group says: “I am very proud of the UK team and congratulate the students from James Hornsby School.
“All of the students demonstrated outstanding skill and composure, competing in front of the world’s aerospace industry. It was wonderful to see the next generation of scientists and engineers demonstrating their work to an audience of professional peers.
“The Paris Airshow is a fantastic event and the UK team were given a VIP tour. I hope this encourages them to continue their maths and science studies and to launch their own aerospace careers. Aerospace is a UK success story and there are many long term, high value jobs on offer to those with the right qualifications and will to succeed.”
