Voyant appoints James Norwood as CEO

Voyant today announced the appointment of James Norwood as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

James Norwood (above) brings extensive experience across military command, defence industry leadership, and technology-enabled transformation. He began his career as a Royal Navy Warfare Officer, serving in operational theatres worldwide and holding roles that included navigation, maritime security and the command of complex teams in high-pressure environments. His military service underpins a deep understanding of contested domains, operational decision-making and the critical importance of trusted sensing.

Following his naval career, James held senior leadership positions at Raytheon and Babcock where he led major defence programmes, multisite operations, and capability development across maritime, aerospace and national security portfolios. His work included driving innovation in mission systems, digital transformation and the integration of advanced technologies into operationally deployed platforms.

This experience at the intersection of defence operations, industrial delivery and emerging technology positions James uniquely to lead Voyant as it scales its advanced tracking algorithms, AI-enabled sensing systems and high-performance data-fusion architectures.

James’ appointment comes at a time of increasing demand for resilient sensing, autonomy and multidomain integration. Voyant is a University of Liverpool spinout which works closely with defence contractors and the UK Ministry of Defence, supporting domains such as radar, sonar, electronic warfare, space and alternative navigation. It specialises in advanced tracking and data-fusion technologies, delivering high-performance solutions for aerospace, defence and security applications worldwide.
