Vulcan repainted for Jubilee season
Above: Vulcan XH558 at RIAT 2011: Sixty years since it first took to the skies, the most iconic aircraft of the Cold War era will be at this summer's RIAT (Royal International Air Tattoo) for a double celebration as the airshow marks the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Thanks to a feature in the Sunday Express newspaper and the generosity of their readers, the Vulcan to the Sky Trust has been able to allocate funds to tidy up the nose, fin and upper surfaces of the Avro Vulcan XH558's camouflage finish.
With nearly £15,000 worth of additional income by this initiative, the work on the XH558 - known as The Spirit of Great Britain - will also include tidying up the roundels and other markings. The budget covers all the materials and the specialist contractor, Steve Hands and his son, who are already hard at work restoring her looks in what is a very important year of possible high profile appearances.
