Cranfield University has successfully revalidated its prestigious Gold Employer Recognition Scheme status, awarded by the Ministry of Defence to organisations that support the Armed Forces community and share the values in the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) recognises and rewards UK employers that support veterans, military spouses and cadets, as well as reservists. The Gold award is the highest award available and acknowledges organisations that provide exceptional ongoing support and advocacy for the Armed Forces community. Cranfield’s revalidation extends its gold award status to 2030 and reflects the university’s leadership within the sector and its proactive support of the Armed Forces.

Professor Dame Karen Holford, Chief Executive and Vice-Chancellor of Cranfield University, said: “Cranfield is an exemplar university with a strong tradition of supporting the Armed Forces, and an ongoing commitment to those making an invaluable contribution to our security. Amongst our staff are many reservists and former military personnel, who bring valuable experience and resilience to our university.

“With deep expertise and specialist facilities, Cranfield works closely with the defence and security sector on research, teaching and consultancy, ensuring that we are playing our part in building national resilience and security.”

The University originally pledged its support to the Armed Forces scheme in December 2016, achieving Silver Employer Recognition in 2017 and re-signing the Armed Forces Covenant in February 2020.
