Edinburgh Airport partners with Airportr for home and hotel baggage collection
Edinburgh Airport has introduced a baggage collection service through Airportr, with easyJet as the launch airline, allowing passengers to check in their luggage before leaving home or their hotel. The airport expects the launch during the busy summer holiday season to reduce congestion while making the passenger journey more convenient.
easyJet eases summer travel for passengers at Edinburgh
Passengers flying with easyJet from Edinburgh can now have their checked luggage collected from their home or hotel, securely transported to the airport, and checked in before they arrive at the terminal. Customers travelling to Geneva can also opt to have their bags delivered from the aircraft directly to their final destination after landing.

“Making travel as easy as possible for our customers is at the heart of everything we do, which is why we’re really pleased to be introducing Airportr’s services for our customers flying from Edinburgh Airport,” said Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, in the announcement. “With the summer holidays now underway, we want to make the journey as smooth as possible for our customers, whether they’re travelling for business or leisure.”
The Edinburgh launch expands Airportr’s relationship with easyJet, which already offers the service at London Gatwick and Geneva, with Zurich and Basel also due to join the network. At Edinburgh, easyJet operates around 288 weekly departures and is the airport’s largest airline by departure share.
Edinburgh Airport aims to ease summer pressure
Edinburgh Airport continues to experience record passenger growth. The airport handled a record 16.9 million passengers in 2025, including more than 61,600 travellers on its busiest day, and expects to exceed those peak figures during the 2026 summer season.
By shifting baggage check-in away from the terminal, the airport’s operators expect to reduce queues, ease pressure on landside facilities and improve passenger flow during busy periods.
“We’re always looking at ways to make travel easier for our passengers, and this new service from easyJet and Airportr does exactly that,” Peter Barnes, Chief Operating Officer at Edinburgh Airport, said. “Being the first airport in Scotland to offer home luggage collection gives passengers even more choice and convenience, particularly during the busy summer period when many people are heading away on holiday.”
Edinburgh Airport has recently invested in several passenger experience improvements, including a £5.8 million redevelopment of its check-in hall, which added 50 self-service kiosks expanding passenger processing capacity ahead of the 2025 summer season. The airport has also introduced technology to monitor and manage passenger flow from the terminal entrance to departure gates.
How the Airportr service works
Airportr collects passengers’ luggage from a home, hotel or office within its service area, verifies identification, seals the bags and transports them securely to the airport, where they are checked in on behalf of the traveller. Customers receive digital baggage receipts via email and SMS before travelling to the airport luggage-free. On selected routes, the company also offers baggage delivery after arrival, allowing passengers to skip baggage reclaim entirely.
According to Airportr, the service already handles more than one million bags annually and partners with airlines including British Airways, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and easyJet. The company says 92% of users report an improved travel experience.
