Filtronic PLC has announced a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Marubeni Corporation subsidiary Spur Microwave Inc to accelerate its expansion into India, one of the world’s fastest growing space and defence markets.

Spur is part of the wider Marubeni Group, one of Japan’s largest and most established trading and investment groups, bringing additional international scale, commercial reach and market credibility to the relationship.

Filtronic has appointed Spur in India to provide an established route to market, supporting engagement with customers and programmes across government, space and defence.

How the partnership combines local expertise with international scale

The agreement marks an important step in Filtronic’s growth strategy within one of the world’s most dynamic space economies, with a strong track record of achievement spanning advanced launch capabilities, satellite programmes and pioneering deep-space exploration.

Nat Edington, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Filtronic, said: “India is a strategically important growth market for Filtronic, with investment across the country’s space ecosystem continuing to accelerate. As we continue to expand our international footprint, it is essential that we work with partners that bring deep local expertise and trusted market relationships.

“Spur’s established presence, combined with the international scale and credibility of the wider Marubeni Group, provides a strong platform from which to bring Filtronic’s high-performance connectivity capabilities to new customers and programmes.”

India continues to accelerate investment in space and defence systems, creating growing demand for advanced RF, sensing and communications technologies. Spur’s established presence, relationships and knowledge of the Indian market will better position Filtronic to engage key stakeholders and pursue opportunities across satellite payloads, ground segment infrastructure, communications networks and advanced sensing applications.

Why India is such a strategically important market for high-frequency connectivity solutions

Vinay Chandran, President and CEO of Spur Microwave Inc said: “India’s space and defence sectors are undergoing a period of significant growth and technological advancement, creating sustained demand for proven, high-performance RF (Radio Frequency) and communications technologies. We look forward to leveraging our extensive relationships across Indian government, space and defence organisations to connect Filtronic with the customers and programmes best positioned to benefit from its expertise and solutions.”

Jaya Choraria, Deputy Trade Commissioner for South Asia, British High Commission, said: “The UK-India trade relationship has been turbocharged since the landmark trade deal came into effect on 15 July this year. This is creating exciting new opportunities for businesses across a wide range of key sectors.

“Filtronic’s collaboration with Spur and Marubeni Corporation is a strong example of this revitalised partnership – a UK technology leader driving export growth, strengthening UK-India commercial relationships and taking world-class British innovation into high-growth international markets. We look forward to seeing the partnership develop and the opportunities it creates in India.”

The agreement is the latest signal of Filtronic’s commitment to expanding internationally through strategic partnerships, combining trusted local market access with the global reach and commercial strength required to underpin long-term growth in strategically important markets.
