AAIB launches investigation into incident at Southend Airport

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has started an investigation into an incident near Southend Airport on Sunday 13th July, involving a 12-metre plane that crashed shortly after take-off.

The AAIB has sent a team of inspectors to Southend, Essex, starting an investigation into an accident involving an aircraft near Southend Airport which occurred yesterday afternoon.

Essex Police and the East of England Ambulance Service responded to the incident. 

A multidisciplinary team including inspectors with expertise in aircraft operations, human factors, engineering and recorded data are at the accident site gathering evidence.

London Southend Airport have confirmed there was a serious incident at the airport on Sunday involving a general aviation aircraft and that it is working closely with the local authorities and will be able to provide more information as soon as possible.

Zeusch Aviation, which is based at Lelystad Airport in the Netherlands, has confirmed that its SUZ1 flight was involved in an accident at London Southend Airport and that it is actively supporting the authorities with the investigation and will provide updates on its website as more information becomes available.
