ASP and University of South Wales partner to launch new degree framework

Today, Aviation Skills Partnership (ASP) announced a new university partner in developing degree programmes from its newly announced framework – University of South Wales.

As the largest university in Wales and with a proud heritage of innovative aerospace and aviation engineering programmes, ASP’s new partner will provide a powerful new force in the field of work-based and practice-based degree programmes for the industry.

ASP’s new framework, announced at MRO Europe has been developed as a progression from its pioneering work on a similar, highly successful scheme for professional pilots. It has been developed in close collaboration with the industry and the training organisations, airlines, operators and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organisations.

The announcement of this new partner paves the way for jointly validated programmes to be developed and rolled-out with approved training providers. More details will be announced shortly.

Dr Rhobert Lewis, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science at University of South Wales, said: “This agreement is an important first step in developing what promises to be an exciting collaboration between the industry and one of the UK’s major universities.  This is a natural match between a university founded by industry, for industry, and one of the leading new players in the aviation sector.

“The partnership between Aviation Skills and the University of South Wales has the potential to make a real difference to the education and training of professionals within the aviation industry. We are delighted to be working together on exciting projects of such importance.”

ASP's Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Simon Witts said: “We are proud that University of South Wales have selected ASP as their partner and adopted our new aviation degree framework.

I look forward to being able to announce our first scheme together and enable people to be able to access one of the most attractive routes to train to be an aviation engineer and, of course, the first enrolments.”

The first students are expected to enrol on the scheme from September 2016 and more details, including information advice and guidance for budding engineers can be found by contacting enquiries@aviationskillspartnership.com or at www.aviationskillspartnership.com , or www.southwales.ac.uk
