BAE Systems wins Scottish Large Employer Award 2017

BAE Systems has been announced the winner of the Large Employer of the Year award at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

In the last decade, BAE Systems Naval Ships has recruited more than 700 Modern Apprentices covering a range of craft and technician frameworks ensuring continued development in the next generation of shipbuilders through Apprenticeships.

Caroline Clucas, Head of Early Careers and Skills for Naval Ships said: “Our Apprenticeships help to develop the skills and talent needed to design and manufacture the latest next generation River Class Offshore Patrol Vessels and the City Class Type 26 Global Combat Ships."

She said: “BAE Systems has a proud heritage and we pride ourselves on giving apprentices a whole new set of skills when they join us. We see them as our future workforce and believe in their potential.”

“We know that Apprenticeships work and we understand the important grounding that these programmes can offer. Apprentices are given opportunities to shadow senior leaders, take part in innovation challenges and be part of the Apprentice Council, which gives our apprentices a voice.”

“Apprentices bring a fresh outlook to the workplace, challenge our existing ways of working, help change the demographic and diversity of our workforce and make a real contribution to projects which help safeguard our nation. Our apprentices multi-task, show enterprise and dynamism and look at things with a fresh pair of eyes.”
