CAA International appoints Matthew Margesson as Managing Director

CAA International (CAAi) - the technical cooperation arm of the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) - has announced the appointment of Matthew Margesson as its new Managing Director, effective 16th October 2023.

Matthew has been an integral part of CAAi’s leadership team since 2009, having held senior roles including Head of International Development and latterly, Head of International Operations. With almost 25 years of aviation experience, Matthew brings to this appointment deep and practical knowledge of industry operations and regulatory capacity building. Before joining CAAi, Matthew held Director-level roles within the sector.

As Head of International Operations, Matthew’s leadership has been instrumental in assisting countries to improve compliance with ICAO requirements, streamlining regulatory operations and processes and enhancing the overall customer experience for aviation regulators worldwide. Matthew has also championed the use of Regulatory e-Tools and directly programme-managed the implementation of e-Exams for the UK CAA and numerous Authorities globally. In his new capacity as Managing Director, Matthew will lead CAAi’s commitment to improving aviation standards globally and assisting countries to unlock the endless benefits that safe, secure and innovative aviation brings.

Commenting on his appointment, Matthew said: "It has always been an honour and privilege to be an integral part of the CAAi and the UK CAA team, working with such dedicated professionals. I am delighted to lead CAAi and continue our work to support, maintain and evolve a sustainable, safe and secure aviation system globally. This appointment comes at an exciting time in our sector’s evolution, characterised by new technologies, skillsets, global standards and a transforming aviation landscape that will soon become part of everyday life for all aviation stakeholders. I look forward to steering CAAi forward and extending our support to entities worldwide on their journey towards better aviation.”
