Defexpo 2014: Zip cooks up an Indian storm

Standard Brands - owners of the award winning Zip Military Cooking Fuel - is unveiling its new range of Boilex portable solid fuel cooking stoves in India at the Defexpo exhibition in New Delhi (6-9 February).

Together, their fuel and stoves create a unique set of high performance, lightweight cooking systems which primarily target individual soldiers and those cooking in survival situations.
The two new stoves in the range are the Boilex 'Hinged' stove - a hinged, flat-packed stove which is lightweight and an ideal 'pocket-sized' stove for soldiers - and the Boilex 'All in One' stove that folds out into a stove and cup cooking system made of aluminium.

Both Boilex cooking stoves are designed to be used with Zip’s Military Cooking Fuel. This fuel is a solid, highly efficient, safer alternative to more traditional options such as hexamine, gas and alcohol gels. It is non-toxic and poses little threat to humans or animals.

Zip Military Cooking Fuel burns cleanly, with a high calorific value and can be used both indoors and outdoors. With a quick and easy to light ignition wrapper, the product is odourless, waterproof and convenient to carry. Powerful and long-burning, one individually-wrapped cube (weighing 25g) is sufficient to boil a 500ml cup of water in around 8 minutes in still air conditions. Additionally, Zip Military Cooking Fuel is classified as non-hazardous and can therefore be transported by air and dropped by parachute.

Terry Coates, managing director of Standard Brands (UK) Ltd, owners of Zip and Boilex, commented: “After the launch of our award winning ZIP Military Cooking Fuel, we realised there was a real need for better stoves and cooking systems, with more efficient heat transfer from the fuel and quicker cooking times.

“I am delighted to now be launching our new Boilex stoves, which are more lightweight and perform better than more costly alternatives. Like our fuel, these new stoves have applications for all soldiers, as well as emergency and survival packs, disaster relief and humanitarian aid. This is another great achievement by the team at Standard Brands, of whom I am immensely proud.”
