Dstl makes funding available for soldier research
Known as the Dismounted Soldier System Engine Room, the four year contract worth up to £40 million will help enable the UK soldier to continue being the battle winning capability.
The successful suppliers will undertake operational analysis, technology research and systems engineering to underpin the development of the UK dismounted soldier capability by working with government, industry and academia.
Duncan Stewart, Engine Room Technical Lead, Dstl says: “The Dismounted Soldier System Engine Room contract, which will be delivered through a Dstl-industry led team, will play a key part in research to deliver an integrated soldier system. It is an opportunity for suppliers to contribute to what the soldier could look like in the future; including developing the next generation of weaponry and supporting the integration of man-worn power and data.”

Previous research in the dismounted soldier area includes the Future Soldier Vision concept (above) which shows what a soldier could be wearing and using on the battlefield in the 2020s.
An industry day for suppliers to find out more about the Dismounted Soldier System Engine Room contract is being held on 22 March 2016 at the Imperial War Museum, London.
