Metis wins Kongsberg contract for Skyperion Lightweight

Skyperion Lightweight is a highly capable passive RF sensor designed for flexible operational deployment.  The system can be mounted on vehicles for use whilst on the move, rapidly deployed to protect static locations and integrated into maritime environments, providing operators with a highly flexible counter-UAS capability deployable across a wide range of operational scenarios.

Already in service with other NATO nations, Skyperion Lightweight is typically deployed as part of a layered counter-UAS architecture, delivering enhanced situational awareness against UAS in general and particularly tailored to support the detection and identification of nefarious drone threats. This layered approach forms a key part of the SAN cUAS programme, where the sensor will contribute to a broader integrated defence capability.

Early in 2026, Kongsberg and its consortium partner Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) announced the over £1 billion contract for the Polish SAN cUAS programme to deliver 18 cUAS batteries. The SAN programme covers a wide variety of effectors, including 35 mm, 30 mm and 12.7 mm guns, as well as missiles, interceptor drones and other means to detect and counter a diverse array of aerial threats.

This contract with Metis, represents a significant milestone for both organisations and highlights the growing strength of collaboration between defence industries in addressing evolving security challenges across Europe and NATO partner nations.

Ben Hewitt, Chief Commercial Officer at Metis, said: “Securing this contract with Kongsberg is a major achievement for Metis and reinforces the confidence placed in our technology by other leading defence partners. The SAN cUAS programme represents an important step forward in strengthening counter-drone capability in Poland and across the region.

"Skyperion’s unique passive RF detection capability is the product of choice for many global defence primes who wish to integrate superior drone detection into their cUAS systems.”
