NATS awarded ATC industry's first asset management ISO 55001 certification

NATS has become the first Air Navigation Services Provider (ANSP) to be certified against ISO 55001:2014, the new international asset management standard, receiving the endorsement for UK en-route operations from Lloyd's Register.

NATS is the first company in the UK to receive the certification, the first ever ANSP and only the second company in the world.

The certification cements NATS’ status as a leader in best practice and substantially benefits the business - driving effective asset management and resulting in significant value and cost savings.
Lloyd’s Register initially certified NATS against PAS 55: 2008 (the British Standards Institution's publicly available specification for the optimised management of physical assets) in 2011.

Ongoing assessments throughout the three-year validity of the certification offered the opportunity to review and improve the system and, with this mature framework in place, enabled the progression towards the adoption of the more globally recognised quality standard – ISO 55001.

A multi-discipline team was involved in the process comprising the Asset Management, Facilities Management, Engineering and Quality departments. Continuous audits will take place during the certified period of three years, before a renewal audit takes place in 2017.

Simon Hocquard, Operations Director, Strategy, NATS, said: “Achieving the ISO 55001 standard for Asset Management is a fantastic accomplishment that has resulted from the tireless efforts of the team involved. This culmination of their hard work and dedication will benefit the business for years to come.

“As the UK’s leading provider of air traffic services, NATS is always looking for innovative solutions and ways to continuously improve. This standard is evidence of that ongoing journey as we drive best practice for improved business performance.”
