No go for GoCo

In a statement on UK defence procurement in the House of Commons this afternoon, the Secretary of State for Defence, Philip Hammond, said that the government-owned, contractor-operated entity (GoCo) procurement model will not be progressed as part of current defence acquisition reform.

He said that although GoCo remains a potential future solution to the challenge of transforming the Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), defence procurement will still be undertaken by  DE&S within the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Paul Everitt, chief executive of defence trade organisation commented: “The UK Defence Sector recognises that defence acquisition reform is necessary to ensure our Armed Forces have the equipment and support they need.

"The potential benefits of reform for industry through improved efficiency, reduced bidding costs and greater funding stability are significant. A more intelligent customer equipped with appropriate financial, commercial and operation experience will benefit the UK taxpayer and the defence industry.
