NPAS opens Tactical Flight Officers recruitment 2025

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) is now accepting applications for the role of Tactical Flight Officer (TFO) - a unique opportunity for substantive Police Constables to join the national air support team and take their careers to new heights.

Tactical Flight Officers are a vital part of NPAS air crews, providing critical support to police colleagues on the ground. From fast-paced incidents and major public events to life-saving missions, TFOs help coordinate resources and enhance operational safety from the air.

This role is open to substantive Police Constables from all 43 forces in England and Wales, including the British Transport Police. Applicants must have completed their probationary period and have approval from their home force before applying.

NPAS offer:

  • Work across a national network of bases
  • Stable shift patterns (24/20 or 12-hour rosters)
  • Multiagency operations and high-profile deployments
  • A six-week Aviation Foundation Course with full training and support
  • Opportunities to gain additional qualifications and specialist skills

Key dates
Application deadline: 23:55 hrs on Sunday 21st September 2025
Aptitude testing: 20th and 22nd October 2025 (RAF Cranwell)
Interviews: Week commencing 8th December 2025 (Carr Gate, Wakefield)

NPAS are encouraging interested officers to contact their local base and, where possible, spend time with the crew to gain insight into the role. 

Awareness sessions are also being held at NPAS bases across the country.

Aircraft deliveries see strongest half-year figures since 2019

Commercial aircraft deliveries in the first half of 2025 rose by nearly a fifth compared to the same period in 2024, according to ADS, marking the strongest January-to-June delivery performance since 2019, with an increase of nearly 100 deliveries compared to the same period last year.
