Oltco has installed 650m² of its innovative Recycle Bound surface, in the Sennen blend, at Cornwall Airport Newquay. The installation covers key pedestrian pathways leading into the airport, as well as a newly developed outdoor seating area, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics. This project alone has recycled the equivalent of 1,950,000 plastic straws, giving waste plastic a new purpose and significantly reducing environmental impact.

Cornwall Airport Newquay chose Oltco for its strong commitment to sustainability, innovative solutions, and proven track record in delivering high-quality, eco-friendly surfaces. Oltco’s core values align seamlessly with the airport’s environmental goals and dedication to reducing its carbon footprint.

Developed in-house in 2019, Recycle Bound is Oltco’s award-winning resin-bound solution made using recycled waste plastic. Designed to outperform traditional resin systems, it offers superior tensile strength, making it the strongest system Oltco has ever tested, capable of withstanding heavy loads.

In addition to its strength and durability, Recycle Bound is permeable and fully compliant with Sustainable Urban Drainage System regulations, helping to manage surface water and reduce flood risk. Its high melting point allows it to withstand extreme heat far better than traditional materials like tarmac, making it an ideal sustainable choice for high-traffic public spaces such as Cornwall Airport Newquay.

By installing our Recycle Bound product, we’ve not only enhanced the airport’s visual appeal but also contributed to its long-term sustainability goals.”

John Pearce, Co-Director at Oltco, commented: “This is a really exciting time for Oltco. Newquay is where we first started and where Tom and I grew up, so installing our Recycle Bound system at Cornwall Airport Newquay is a huge milestone for us. We’re honoured that the airport has chosen Oltco to help transform its facilities and support a more sustainable future.”

Josie Hutt, Marketing Manager at Cornwall Airport Newquay, said: “We’re proud to have partnered with a company so deeply rooted in Cornwall for the recent enhancements at Cornwall Airport Newquay. With increasing foot traffic and a clear focus on sustainability, it was vital for us to find a solution that met both practical and environmental demands. Oltco’s Recycle Bound has exceeded our expectations by offering durability, visual appeal and a meaningful environmental benefit. The results speak for themselves, and we’re thrilled with the transformation.”
