RFEL opens US office
This British company has developed a world-leading position in the provision of real-time high specification signal, image and video processing products. These continually push the boundaries of technology and have resulted in RFEL winning many awards. The most recent being the Elektra 2014 European Electronics Industry Awards that were held on the 26 November 2014, when RFEL was awarded Design Team of the Year for its HALO video processing platform and also Company of the Year.
Dr Alex Kuhrt, RFEL's CEO, said, "The majority of our work is highly confidential for governmental services, defence, homeland security and other companies who come to us because we can provide a leading edge solution that gives them an advantage in a competitive market. We have been developing our presence in the US market for some time. Opening a US office will enable us to service our growing customer base in a more timely and effective manner with a local presence and US engineering capabilities in a convenient time zone."
RFEL's HALO state-of-the-art video processing and enhancement platform, and its innovative signal processing solutions, will be sold out of Vingtech LLC, Biddeford. "Having technical expertise, development capabilities and demonstration systems in the USA will really help to open up the US market for HALO and our IP, as customers can immediately see how fast and accurate our technology is and get it adapted to their requirements," added Dr Kuhrt. The technology, wholly designed in the UK, is offered as a commercial and industrial product, but has been designed to be ready for qualification to extended requirements.
The HALO product is offered with a high performance range of video processing IP solutions. When considering the Design team of Year award, it was the HALO Real-time HD Video Stabiliser, which enables video images to be enhanced in real time for surveillance, military and counter terrorism applications, that caught the imagination of the judges. This function would normally require powerful, power-hungry processors or GPUs but RFEL's design team created a solution on a single, low power FPGA chip. The judges said that the software and hardware design elements carried out by the design team were of equally outstandingly quality.

The Company of the Year award was selected by the judges for the company that has demonstrated outstanding achievements in business success and technology innovation. The judges said that RFEL has created a team of exceptionally skilled software and hardware designers who are contributing leading edge signal processing technology to international companies and consortiums.
Richard Wilson, Editor of Electronics Weekly that organises the Elektras, said, "RFEL is a worthy winner of these awards. The company shows that British electronic design expertise is world class."
