Royal Solomon Islands Police Force join UK leadership programme

Two Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers travelled to the UK last week (25 September) to participate in the International Leadership Programme (ILP), a flagship leadership initiative delivered by the UK College of Policing.

RSIPF Director of Close Personal Protection Aipo Kabwere and Provincial Police Commander Western Province Superintendent, Wilken Miriki are taking part in the month-long programme.

The programme forms part of the UK-supported Pacific Policing Leadership Programme (PPLP), which strengthens policing across the Pacific by developing ethical, effective and future-focused police leaders through professional development opportunities, leadership training and international exchanges.

Solomon Islands remains one of the programme’s principal beneficiaries. To date, eight RSIPF officers, including the two participants travelling this week, have taken part in the ILP.

The initiative also includes emerging leaders training and planned mid-level leadership development courses in Honiara later this year.

Since its inception, PPLP has reached almost 400 police officers across the Pacific region.

Deputy British High Commissioner, Cameron Millar said: “The UK is committed to partnering with Pacific Islands police forces to strengthen policing across the region by supporting the development of the leaders of tomorrow. The International Leadership Programme offers senior police officers a unique opportunity to build leadership capabilities while exploring the principles of legitimacy, consent, ethics and human rights that underpin effective policing.”

The UK and Solomon Islands continue to work together to support a professional, accountable and capable police service that contributes to regional security and stability. The participation of RSIPF officers in the programme reflects the strong and enduring partnership between the two countries.
