UK aerospace partnership strengthens India’s e200X electric aircraft programme at Farnborough
A new UK-industry partnership is helping move India’s e200X electric aircraft programme closer to certification, with aerospace systems specialist SASMOS HET Technologies selected to develop one of the aircraft’s most critical electrical systems as the project transitions from prototype development towards industrialisation.
The agreement, announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, will see SASMOS support the engineering, design and industrialisation of the Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS) for The ePlane Company’s e200X.
The collaboration highlights Farnborough’s growing role as a platform where international aerospace partnerships are being formed to support the next generation of electric aircraft.
Unlike conventional aircraft, electric aircraft rely on highly integrated electrical architecture to distribute power between propulsion systems, avionics, flight controls and onboard equipment.
Designing that system is regarded as a key step towards achieving certification, reducing weight and improving operational reliability.

Under the agreement, SASMOS will work with The ePlane Company on wiring architecture, engineering, manufacturability, prototype evaluation and certification readiness.
The companies also intend to explore wider collaboration on mission-critical electrical and interconnect systems as development of the e200X progresses.

The agreement is one of several supplier collaborations announced by The ePlane Company during the Farnborough International Airshow as it assembles the industrial network needed to support certification and future production of the e200X.
Alongside electrical systems, the company has established partnerships covering avionics, composite structures, aerospace fasteners and modular cabin interiors, reflecting a strategy of combining specialist suppliers with domestic manufacturing capability as the aircraft moves towards commercial production.
For the UK, the announcement reinforces Farnborough’s importance beyond aircraft orders and flying displays.
The airshow continues to serve as a meeting point where aerospace manufacturers, technology companies and suppliers establish partnerships that underpin future aircraft programmes.
India’s e200X programme is building a supplier ecosystem ahead of certification and commercial service
The e200X has been designed as a compact electric aircraft capable of operating from existing helipads, reducing the need for dedicated vertiport infrastructure.
Its modular design is intended to support passenger transport, cargo logistics and emergency medical services using a common aircraft platform.

The company plans to begin certified flight testing in 2027 and has already secured Design Organisation Approval from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation, becoming the country’s first private aerospace company to receive the approval for an electric aircraft programme.
As advanced air mobility programmes mature worldwide, manufacturers are increasingly shifting attention from concept aircraft to the engineering, certification and industrial capability required for commercial operations.
The Farnborough agreement reflects that broader transition, demonstrating how specialist suppliers are becoming as important to next-generation aircraft programmes as the aircraft developers themselves.
