Avon awarded JSAM-FW contract by US DoD

Avon has been awarded a sole source contract by the US Department of Defense (DoD) to develop a modified version of its M53 face mask to provide respiratory protection to a wide range of operators on the DoD's fleet of fixed wing aircraft.

The contract award for the MM53 type 2, as it will be known, is $6.7m. This initial two year pre-production contract covers the development, testing and user trials of the new mask system and the provision of logistical support. There is potential for follow on production contract awards of up to $74m.

This is an integral part of the DoD’s strategy to provide its aircrew community with upgraded CBRN respiratory protection equipment under the JSAM-FW (Joint Service Aircrew Mask- Fixed Wing) programme.

Commenting on the news, Peter Slabbert, chief executive said: “This contract reaffirms Avon Protection’s position as the respiratory protection equipment provider of choice for the US Department of Defense. Our high specification products have gained widespread support as users experience their superior design and comfort. Our depth of capability and development positions Avon Protection as the global market leader of respiratory protection systems technology.”
