Babcock secures German DIO contract

Since August 2010, Babcock Support Services Germany (BSSG), a subsidiary of the Babcock Infrastructure Business Unit, has been managing the Defence Infrastructure Organisation's (DIO) entire Defence Estate in Germany.

In September 2013 BSSG was awarded three additional contracts for critical services across the entire Germany Estate.

Previously managed in-house by the DIO, BSSG are now responsible for the non – hazardous waste management service providing critical support on-site, dealing with routine activities and preparing for, and dealing with, any changes in requirement over the next five years from issues arising from the MoD withdrawal from Germany back to the UK.

In addition BSSG are now responsible for the snow and ice clearance requirements. Once again this was a service managed in-house which is now managed and run by the current BSSG Management Team providing a single point of contact for a service across the entire estate.

Expanding on the existing relationship with the DIO and Babcock in Germany and aligning critical services across the entire BFG Estate, BSSG are now delivering an integrated energy management programme in Germany for the DIO which will deliver energy cost savings and a reduction in the MoD’s carbon footprint.

The success of the BSSG contract, coupled with new service delivery requirements, facilitates the opportunity to establish a coherent business model in order to address additional opportunities in Germany with the aim being that BSSG becomes the single provider of all FM throughout the BFG drawdown.

Stefan Wolter, BSSG’s managing director said: “We are delighted to be awarded this additional critical contracts as it provides a natural progression to expand Babcock’s our capabilities to DIO in Germany whilst providing value for money to our key customer.”
