Taking up roles across our Marine, Nuclear, Land and Aviation sectors, as well as with our corporate function, our new colleagues will be located in various operating locations including Rosyth Dockyard and Her Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde – both in Scotland – the Babcock Technology Centre in Bristol, RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire, and Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth.

The apprentices and graduates will work across a number of specialised areas including technology and innovation, business management, project management, science, fabrication and engineering in its many traditional disciplines and some new ones too.

The coveted development programmes have more than 1,260 graduate and apprentices already working with the company in the UK, with some employees taking up international placements, contributing to the diversity and skills base of the organisation.

Having just left the Royal Air Force, Catherine Lollis, a working single mother, was at a crossroads in her life, until she made the leap and enrolled to study for an HNC in Aeronautical Engineering. From there she took the opportunity to join Babcock’s apprenticeship scheme at RAF Leeming.

Catherine said: “After almost two years on the Babcock scheme, I am on the verge of becoming a qualified aircraft engineer.

“The apprenticeship course has been ideal for me. I’ve progressed my aim of becoming an aircraft engineer with some fantastic support.

“And although I am older than most of the other apprentices, and a single mum, I’ve never let that get in my way. I’m part of the team and we are all treated the same - whether we are 19 or 29!

“It was the perfect opportunity for me to chase my goal - my age has never stood in my way - and I’m about to gain the qualifications I’ve been aiming for and I am even helping Babcock develop the way it supports single parents in the workplace.”

First year graduate scheme member Morgan Stewart is a high-flier whose engineering talents will help the Royal Navy plumb the depths. From her school days Morgan wanted to fly fast jets for the RAF and went on the study Aero-Mechanical Engineering at university. In a change of plan Morgan is now focusing on inner space and supporting the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet from Her Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde.

Morgan said: “The graduate position with Babcock will allow me to incorporate all of the things that I have dreamt of being involved in, and combine my passions and talents into one role – which is perfect.”

Babcock’s Chief Human Resources Officer Nikki Fox said: “We are delighted to be welcoming our new apprentices and graduates across the UK. Our early careers development programmes are designed to attract the next generation of future talent, not only to meet our business needs, but also to provide our early career employees with the skills, knowledge and attitudes which will enable them to achieve their potential and enjoy avaried and challenging career in Babcock.”
