BAE Systems completes first live-fire test of Adaptable Deck Launcher

With the first live-firing of its Adaptable Deck Launcher, BAE Systems has demonstrated a scalable missile launch solution that doubles critical combat capabilities for US Navy and allied fleets, enhancing survivability and firepower through rapid, deck-mounted deployment.

BAE Systems has successfully completed the first live-fire test of the Adaptable Deck Launcher (ADL), a missile launching solution that significantly increases combat capabilities and operational adaptability across the US Navy and allied fleets.

Developed under a US Department of War (DoW) contract for the NATO Seasparrow Project Office (NSPO), the system provides the reliability of a Vertical Launching System (VLS) and low-cost operation by using an existing Mk 41 VLS logistics and electronics suite. The ADL’s capability for expedited reloading at sea provides a key operational advantage by helping to ensure ships maintain high rates of fire without returning to port.

Jason Casciotti, vice president of Weapons Systems at BAE Systems said: “The successful demonstration of the Adaptable Deck Launcher is a major milestone in our commitment to enhancing the Navy’s combat effectiveness and readiness. The ADL complements the Mk 41 VLS — the foundation of naval missile integration — by providing a capability for rapid replenishment, using standard shipboard equipment and offering the fleet additional flexibility in how it sustains combat loads at sea.”

Optimising air defence support for unmanned surface vessels

The Adaptable Deck Launcher (ADL) enables anti-air defence and flexible maritime operations across aircraft carriers, amphibious ships and other surface combatants.

The system is also optimised for unmanned warfare, offering compact configurations ideal for medium unmanned surface vessels.

As the mechanical design agent for the Mk 41 VLS family, BAE Systems developed the ADL for full compatibility with Evolved SeaSparrow Missile Mk 25 Quad-Pack canisters, which provide surface-to-air defence for ships against supersonic anti-ship missiles, aircraft and other aerial threats.
