Flights on the new route went on sale last week and the inaugural flight will depart on 26 March 2013.

The twice-weekly service will fly on Tuesdays and Saturdays to provide passengers in the region with flexible and affordable access into Jersey to enjoy cultural breaks as well as making it easier for inbound passengers to visit the North East of England.

This is the second new route to be announced by easyJet this year at Newcastle International Airport. The airline will start operating its Amsterdam route on 13 December 2012.

Chris Sanders, Aviation Development Director at Newcastle International Airport, said: “The new easyJet service to Jersey will enable more people to sample all that Jersey has to offer including its history, beautiful beaches, cultural venues, scenic walks and cycle trails. If you need an escape from everyday life then Jersey is a great place to go to for a few days relaxation whilst touring the island.”

Hugh Aitken, easyJet UK commercial manager, said: “I’m confident Jersey will prove to be a popular destination for our passengers in the North East.

“EasyJet currently flies to Jersey from Liverpool, Glasgow and London Southend and the route has had a huge impact on tourism levels both inbound and outbound which is why we were keen to introduce it into more schedules across our UK bases.

“Our promise is to make travel easy and affordable for all and we look forward to welcoming passengers onboard our inaugural flight to Jersey when it takes off on 26 March 2013.”

EasyJet is the largest airline out of Newcastle International Airport, where it operates more than 6,800 flights and carries in excess of 900,000 people each year.

The airline has on average 22 daily flights to and from Newcastle International Airport and flies 2,400 people each day to its eight year-round destinations including; Belfast, Bristol, Alicante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Faro, Malaga and Malta.
