The new service agreement with Babcock International Group makes Hamworthy Pumps the key pump supplier for the new Royal Navy Marine System Support (MSS) in a framework agreement for the next seven years.

Babcock International won a £49 million contract with the Royal Navy earlier this year. Hamworthy Pumps will now contribute to the repair and maintenance services of pumps for the MSS Team. The agreement is global and includes Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships and submarines.

The framework agreement with Babcock International Group will form as an Asset Availability Service (AAS) arrangement.

“We will support Babcock in maintaining the operational capability of the UK Navy Fleet with the planning and supply spares for Sea Water Systems Equipment, as well as carrying out storage, repair and disposal of stock. The contract also includes the provision of ad-hoc maintenance and engineering support services,” says Jim McGookin, Regional Sales Manager (Commercial Marine/Navy) at Hamworthy Pumps and responsible for the collaboration with Babcock International Group.

With this new agreement, Hamworthy Pumps is building on extremely positive developments within the navy segment. The company won several significant orders in 2020 for US Navy projects as a subcontractor for Wärtsilä Defence. In February 2021 Hamworthy Pumps announced a huge contract with Babcock International Group for a total of 235 pumps over a five-year period for five highly specialised Royal Navy Type 31 military vessels.

Expanded UK setup
The framework agreement with Babcock International Group fits right into the Hamworthy Pumps strategy, taking a stronger focus on customers, including shorter lead times and a stronger set up for service, support and aftersales.

As part of the strategy, Hamworthy Pumps has expanded its Poole capabilities. This includes a strong focus on client management and technical support service, and the local storage of products and spare parts.

Earlier this year, the Hamworthy Pumps UK department obtained accreditation with the Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register (JOSCAR), which is valued by some of the largest purchasers in the defence community.
