RAF becomes new operator of EPI's TP400

Europrop International (EPI) has welcomed the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) as the latest operator of the TP400 powered Airbus A400M transport aircraft.

The A400M is powered by four of EPI’s TP400 engines (right) each generating 11,000 shaft horsepower, making them the most powerful turboprops in the Western world.

EPI President Ian Crawford said: “We are delighted that the TP400 powered A400M has taken its place in the RAF fleet and we look forward to supporting this latest customer as its operations with the aircraft and engine expand. EPI and its partner companies are very proud of the engine and we look forward to delivering new levels of performance and capability to the RAF’s transport fleet.”

EPI and its partner company Rolls-Royce have worked closely with the UK customer and Airbus Defence & Space to establish initial in-service engine support at the A400M’s new base at RAF Brize Norton. This support includes technical support on-base, backed by full access to the EPI engineering office.

EPI recently completed its 100th production standard engine while, to date, 24 TP400 engines have logged over 4,000 flight hours on A400M transports in service with the French and Turkish air forces.

The TP400 was designed specifically for the A400M airlifter, and features proven technologies developed by the four EPI partners on other commercial and military engines.
