Scottish Leather awarded top apprenticeship accolades
After success in the Apprentice Award category, Scottish Leather Group was also named winner of the prestigious ‘Chairman’s Award’, acknowledging the Company’s outstanding, innovative and sustainable commitment to young workers in Scotland.
S1Jobs Recruitment aims to award the best employers, recruitment agencies and consultants in Scotland.
Maureen Ross, Group Head of Human Resources, picked up the awards on behalf of the Company, and said: “Our Apprenticeship Academy is a fantastic vocational programme with real job opportunities and career prospects at the end of it. The talent that came through our selection assessment process identified that we could easily have more than doubled our apprentice intake.
“We’re extremely proud of the success of the Academy and look forward to taking it to the next level and taking on more apprentices in the near future.”
The Apprenticeship Academy, which is part of Scottish Leather Group’s talent strategy, was launched in April 2012 in partnership with Invest in Renfrewshire, Scottish Enterprise and Reid Kerr College. In August 2012, the first ten apprentices joined the two-year modern apprenticeship for a unique course in Leather Production and Manufacturing.
Ross said: “Reid Kerr College does a fantastic job for us in terms of delivering the Leather Production and Manufacturing SVQ2. This is a great example of industry led training and development which has led to Scottish Leather Group entering into a formal partnership with the college.”
