Star Alliance appoints Simon Ralph as Managing Director UK

Star Alliance, the world’s first and largest global airline alliance, has announced the appointment of Simon Ralph as its Managing Director for the United Kingdom.

Based at London Heathrow and working closely with the HQ in Singapore, Ralph (aboved) will lead Star Alliance’s engagement in the UK, advancing strategic projects that enhance seamless connectivity and elevate the experience of member airline customers. He will work proactively with airport stakeholders for the Alliance’s collective interests at Heathrow and oversee initiatives that strengthen operational performance and strategic value for the Alliance.

"On behalf of Star Alliance, I welcome Simon to the team,” said Theo Panagiotoulias, Star Alliance Chief Executive Officer, “Simon’s aviation experience positions him well to manage the opportunities we have in the UK. Working with senior executives from our member airlines, he will be focused on delivering the best for our customers and carriers, as well as protecting our interests at London Heathrow.”
 
Simon has more than 25 years’ experience in the aviation industry. He joins Star Alliance from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), where he served as Director External Relations. During his time at IATA, he held a range of member and external relations related roles in London, Montreal and Geneva.

The Queen’s Terminal at Heathrow - popularly referred to as the Star Alliance terminal by passengers - serves as the base for 22 Star Alliance member airlines working seamlessly under one roof since 2014. Together, they facilitate smooth transfers and operations for over 13 million passengers annually, representing nearly 20% of the available seat capacity from the airport.
 
Outlining the strategic importance of member airlines working collectively at Heathrow Terminal 2, Theo Panagiotoulias continued: “Heathrow stands as a vital hub for our member airlines. We're proud to facilitate effortless experiences for thousands of passengers daily, from common check-in spaces and Gold Track security lanes, to expediting passengers to onward flights with the exclusive Star Connection Centre and a choice of four executive lounges.”
